  Cholecystitis (Gallstones)

Cholecystitis (Gallstones),the gallbladder is used by the body to store bile. Bile is released into the small bowel to breakdown fat (similar to the effect washing up liquid has on fat) so it can be more easily absorbed. The bile can harden and form small stome like pieces. If these stones develop in the gallbladder this may cause abdominal pains, which may become worse after eating.
Being overweight may well increase the risk of gallstones.

What are the symptoms?
Depending upon the severity of symptoms, which can be severe enough to require admission into hospital, the gall bladder maybe removed (cholecystectomy).

The gallbladder contracts (squeezes) to release bile when there is fat in the diet; if stones are present this may result in pain.
In theory a very low fat diet should help, however this has not been clearly shown in studies.
Dietary manipulation could still be helpful if a healthy diet is not already eaten.

How can EatatEase help?
An e-consultation would allow a comprehensive dietary assessment to be undertaken by a UK registered Dietitian. This may be useful to ensure an appropriate diet is taken and to aid weight loss in those who are overweight.
People who are already a healthy weight or are underweight might benefit from advice to ensure their nutritional status does not worsen with any dietary restrictions.
