  Cycle of change

Where are you in the cycle of change?

This cycle was developed to explain how people change, and is widely used throughout the world today.

The cycle shows the five main stages of change.

Changing your habits happens gradually, its never overnight. Often people will need to go through stages of the cycle many times before they achieve lasting change.

The five stages are.

Not interested (precontemplative)
Unwilling to change, not given it a thought, at this stage you'll not be willing to accept any help or advice.

Thinking about it (contemplation)
You're starting to think about changing, but you're not committed to it. You'll be interested to the idea of change and at this stage you'll be interested to hear advice. Encouragement will help you make a positive move to the next stage.

Planning it.
You've decided to make the change!
You'll need to prepare for the change, you'll need advice and support in how to reach your goals, bad planning will often mean that you don't manage to achieve lasting success.

Doing it.
Now you're making changes, you're making real choices in your diet and you're getting out there and doing some activity, or increasing you're normal activity level.

Had enough (relapse).
Don't worry this is perfectly normal, nothing worthwhile happens overnight!
Maybe you placed too much pressure on yourself? Maybe you set your goals to high or too far, think about your planning. Make you goals more achievable, it'll encourage you to jump back in!
