So your diet's on track...
You've had a great breakfast, gone to work, had your cup of tea, replaced your usual chocolate bar with an extra piece of fruit. Then the unexpected… someone’s brought in cake! |
 |
You don’t want to be rude, impolite or difficult, but you also really want to keep to your diet. What do you do?
Our dietitians believe that the diet detour is inevitable, the key is to be prepared. You need to know that you’re in control of your diet and not the other way around!
The truth is there’s many ways to look at the typical detour.
Having a treat is fine during any healthy balanced diet. Remember this isn’t meant to be a diet boot camp, it's meant to be you making practical changes to improve your health, for life.
The key is knowing the difference between having a treat in moderation and having it beyond that. Basically if you fancy a piece of the cake, have some but have a small slice and avoid second helpings.
On the other hand, maybe your're committed to your diet plan for the day and know that when you get home there’s a treat that you’ve planned which you'd prefer.... in which case don't have any cake and enjoy your planned goodies later.
Whatever your viewpoint the most important thing is to not let everyday distractions de-motivate you. If you do then you could be setting yourself up to fail.
