Do I really want to lose weight? This is a question you seriously need to ask yourself!
Do I want to lose weight?
Do I feel pressured into losing weight?
If you have tried to lose weight before, was it successful? Yes? No?
If yes, what was the key to the weight loss? Motivation, increased activity or maybe a particular change in diet?
If no, why did you fail? Not motivated, didn’t increase your activity levels, or the changes that the diet required were too difficult to maintain?
When thinking of losing weight, you need to be in the right frame of mind, you need to want to lose weight. If not you get into a vicious circle, you start making small half hearted changes, maybe lose a few kilos and then start treating yourself here and there. Before you know it your weight has gone back on and your back into your normal eating habit, wondering what happened and making empty promises that you’ll be restarting the diet again tomorrow, although sadly tomorrow never seems to come.
When you first decide to lose weight, you need to think why you want to lose weight. It’s normally a long process. Be realistic, set yourself realistic weight goals. Think over what length of time you put weight on. It may have taken years to get to your current weight. It will probably take the same amount of time to lose all the weight. If you are expecting a fast easy weight loss, you are heading for disaster and heading for a disappointment.
When losing weight we want to work on establishing a regular eating pattern, choosing the right types of foods, taking part in regular activity, adapting new eating habits. The changes in your diet should be incorporated into your normal diet and become a regular part of your eating habits.
‘Diet’ shouldn’t be a swear word for losing weight, but simply a description of what we eat.
Eat a healthy balanced diet, exercise regularly (but in moderation!) and you will lose weight, it’s as simple as that!
